The intoxicated woman was bitten by a tiger after she reached into the predator’s cage after she allegedly broke into Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska, according to police.
The big cat obviously wasn’t welcoming of Eide’s affection, and she suffered a “severe trauma” to her left hand, the Omaha Police Department said in a statement.
“Just in case you had any doubt … If you pet a tiger you will most likely get bitten,” said the OPD in a post on Facebook.
Eide was taken to the hospital by a friend and after the injured woman showed up with her mangled hand, officers were called to the Creighton University Medical Center around 7:20 a.m. Police reported the bitten woman was acting aggressively and appeared to be intoxicated with alcohol or drugs.
She was cited with criminal trespass and remained at the hospital for treatment Sunday.
The zoo said in a statement that it was likely an 18-year-old Malayan tiger named Mai bit the woman, and asserted that safety and security are priorities at the facility.
